How to use the PPT viewer
- Drag a .pptx file onto the drop zone, or open it with Choose files.
- Slide thumbnails appear on the left and the selected slide is shown large in the middle, like PowerPoint's normal view. Text boxes, shapes, tables, images, backgrounds and charts are drawn in their original positions.
- Move between slides with the thumbnails, the arrows in the status bar or the arrow keys on your keyboard.
- Click Slideshow to present full screen. Use the arrow keys, Page Up/Down, the space bar or a click to advance, and Esc to exit.
- Copy all text collects the text of every slide in order, which is handy for preparing a script or moving content into an email.
Drop several decks at once to open them in tabs, and use Side by side to compare two versions.
How it works
PPTX is an Office Open XML format, like DOCX for Word and XLSX for Excel. Inside the file is one XML file per slide, such as slide1.xml and slide2.xml, describing the position, size, font, color and linked images of every object. Slide masters and layouts define the background and default formatting.
The viewer runs the open-source renderer pptx-preview (ISC License) in your browser. It reads this XML and places each object back in its original position as HTML. Images and chart data come straight from the file, so nothing goes through another server.
When slides may look different
- Fonts: if the presentation uses fonts not installed on your device, similar fonts are used and line breaks can change.
- Animations and transitions: animations, slide transitions and video playback are not supported; each slide is shown in its final state.
- SmartArt and 3D effects: some complex effects are simplified.
- Old PPT format: the binary .ppt format from PowerPoint 2003 and earlier is not supported. Save it as PPTX in PowerPoint or a free office suite and open it again.
Safe for presentations, too
Proposals and business plans often contain unpublished sales targets, prices and customer names. The moment you upload them to an online converter, that content is copied to an external server. This viewer reads the file only in your browser's memory, so nothing is uploaded or stored, and closing the tab clears it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I open old PPT files?
Only PPTX, the standard since PowerPoint 2007, is supported. Save .ppt files as PPTX in PowerPoint or LibreOffice and open them again.
Can I present the slides?
Yes. Click Slideshow to go full screen and use the arrow keys, space bar or a click to move through the slides. Animations and transitions are not played.
Can I save a PPTX as PDF?
Open the file, click Print / Save as PDF and choose Save as PDF as the printer.
Is my presentation stored on a server?
No. Everything happens inside your browser and the file is never sent anywhere.
